Morning has broken.

Unless you’ve been sentenced to solitary confinement you know that the world is in a mess in many ways. Finger pointing has never proven to be successful in righting all wrongs.  It’s also not a good idea, in my opinion, to cite other times in history where times have been worse than today.

We who are just passengers on planet earth often fail to marvel at the many wonders that surround us.  I sometimes think that social media has made us anti-social.

I have always been a sky watcher. There is something awe inspiring by looking up at the sky…in the early morning, at mid-day, at dusk and in the darkness of night.

On my way from my home to Marist College to teach an 8 am class I was graced with a sunrise that told me to stop. And I did.  As I watched the sun coming up from behind a mountain I thought of the famous Cat Stevens’ song, Morning has Broken.

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world
Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass
Mine is the sunlight
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise ev’ry morning
God’s recreation of the new day
